Petrichor

A interdisciplinary design and scent project created together with Louise Gistrand, in a collaboration between Beckmans College of Design and renowned perfumery school ISIPCA. The work was exhibited in Paris at La Fabrique and in Stockholm as a part of Stockholm Design Week.

Botany through imagination.

What if earth became water. And air became soil. By challenging our relationship to nature we create something new, but still familiar. An alternative cosmogony.

Petrichor is the scientific name for the smell of rain. Bacteria in the soil that react with the rain, are responsible for some of the strong and familiar smells. Using petrichor as a starting point, we evoke memories, create new ones and drift into new territories. A distorted yet familiar world.

The role of the scent in this work is to pull us down to earth and throw us back to core memories of the nature we know. It could be the best of both worlds – or the other way around.
